OUR STORY
Our journey began in 2019. A madrasa building in a Gambian village called Kuloro was brought to our attention. It was in disrepair. Urgent help was needed to improve standards.
We fundraised in Summer 2020, collecting £5000 of donations from a dedicated JustGiving page. The funds built four new classrooms, an office with storage for staff and new toilet facilities.
Success of this initial phase led to an expansion of the school with an additional four classrooms funded by £4000, as high demand for Islamic education emerged from the community.
We discovered that there were around 20 orphans studying at the madrasa that needed financial assistance with their fees. We therefore created a separate fundraiser for this cause alongside providing Iftar meals for vulnerable families during Ramadan.
Thanks to your help, we've been able to make the school a better place by adding new classrooms and fixing it up. This effort grew into the Ummah Wahidah Foundation (UWF), a charity that now doesn't just help the school but also works on projects like building wells and giving Iftar food to families who need it. A recent visit to the school, along with Imam Shakeel, showed us how important our work is. Seeing the students' happy faces and their eagerness to learn made us even more committed to helping. At UWF, we believe education is key, following Allah's first command to "Read!". We invite you to join us in making a real difference in these young lives.
As our work has progressed we have also been able to contribute to the surrounding school community through projects such as digging wells to privide drinking water. We have big ambitions to continue to positively impact the lives of the people in the Gambia and need your support to do this.

OUR VALUES
Knowldege, community, prosperity. These three values have stood at the centre of the Ummah Wahidah mission since our founding. We wholeheartedly commit to the work we do with passion and dedication, transparently sharing it with the Muslim world and the whole of humanity, and inviting others to take part. On top of this, we challenge ourselves to think creatively, applying an innovative approach to all that we do. This mission drives the continued success of Ummah Wahidah.
